About us

The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust was set up as a registered charity in 1996. Our aim is to “support the well-being of this special area” - the Yorkshire Dales.

In the early days conserving the jigsaw of heritage features that make up the Yorkshire Dales landscape was the core of our work. We planted trees, restored wildlife habitats, rebuilt barns, walls, village halls, historic buildings and features of all shapes and sizes.

We still do all that, but today our role is much wider. We’re now involved with many of the social, economic and environmental aspects of life in this special area. Our work covers areas as diverse as countryside apprenticeships, supporting local businesses and sustainable development. Social exclusion, education, health and well-being and connecting with communities in nearby conurbations has become a real focus, with some inspiring and pioneering work.

To date the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust has helped to deliver over 1,200 projects worth around £20 million in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas.
