Funding is now available to support community-based projects in the Yorkshire Dales that require a cash injection of between £5,000 and £20,000.

The funding is provided by the LEADER Local Action Group through a scheme called “Caring for the Parish”.

LEADER is seeking to support initiatives that will conserve, enhance and improve the use of natural and built features of village environments, as the basis for sustainable economic growth.

Applications for grants to support small scale capital infrastructure projects within local communities will also be looked upon favourably, along with projects that encourage communities to value their local environment, and those which aim to improve co-operative working and social inclusion, amongst others.

Grants are available to cover up to 80% of total project costs for eligible initiatives.

Interested organisations should first submit a Project Enquiry Form online at www.yorkshiredalesleader.co.uk/apply. A full application form will then be issued to eligible projects. The deadline for full applications is 14th March 2012.

In the Yorkshire Dales region the LEADER Local Action Group has awarded over £2 million since the launch of the fund in June 2009.

Rima Berry, Dales LEADER Project Co-ordinator said “LEADER has supported some excellent parish projects since we started; improving village access, restoring historic features and enabling the employment of parish caretakers. I’m delighted that in 2012 we can further fund these locally led initiatives.”

LEADER is a community-led rural development programme which aims to improve the quality of life and prosperity in rural communities through locally driven rural development initiatives and projects.

In the Yorkshire Dales area, Clapham-based charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust is the lead partner in the multi-agency partnership that is the LEADER programme.

LEADER is unable to fund individuals, social enterprise or business ventures.
