Yorkshire Dales Benefits from World's Third-Largest Donor

The people, landscape and economy of the Yorkshire Dales are receiving the support of the world’s third-largest private charity donor.
Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries is the founder of People’s Postcode Lottery; a charity lottery in the UK which donates 20 per cent of its profit to local charities, including Clapham-based charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT).
So far, players of the People’s Postcode Lottery have raised £225,332 for YDMT, helping the charity to continue to support and deliver projects across the Yorkshire Dales. Projects include the conservation of threatened habitats such as wildflower hay meadows and wetlands, the restoration of broadleaf woodlands, the provision of training programmes for young local people wishing to learn countryside management skills, and pioneering education and outreach work with local children as well as urban-based disadvantaged and disabled groups.
Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries has been announced as the world’s third-largest donor, having donated a total of £451 million to good causes across the world in 2010. Only the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in America and the Wellcome Trust in the UK (which donated £1.67 billion and £602 million respectively) are ahead as the largest private donors in the world.
The list, compiled by London-based business newspaper City AM, places the WK Kellogg Foundation in fourth place and the Ford Foundation in fifth.
