Donate to the Dales

Dales Holiday Cottages has been a business partner since 2006, donating money to our Woodland Restoration scheme each year to support the planting of new natural woodlands in the Yorkshire Dales, and even donning their boots, grabbing a spade and joining us to help plant some saplings.

Catherine Smith, Dales Holiday Cottages commented “We are passionate about the Yorkshire Dales, and so are our customers, many of whom love to holiday in this area year after year. We are proud to be working with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, doing our bit to help protect this special landscape for future generations to enjoy.”

In 2010 Dales Holiday Cottages also sponsored our Flowers of the Dales Festival programme, encouraging visitors to combine a holiday in the Dales with one or two events from the Festival calendar… and vice versa.  And in 2012 the team at Dales Holiday Cottages got their hands dirty helping us to plant sapling broadleaf trees at Bolton Abbey, and a group of six volunteers spent a day working with YDMT to spruce up a young woodland in Nidderdale.

Sinclairs,

Andrew Howard, Managing Director of Sinclairs says, “We take our responsibility for the environment very seriously – recently receiving ISO14001 accreditation – and we are pleased to have supported the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust for many years. We have helped the Trust to plant more trees in the Yorkshire Dales and at the same time encouraged our consumers to use our environmentally conscious range of notebooks and pads”.

Premier Farnell is one of the most successful and well respected distributors of electronic components in the world – and it was founded in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

On a bright morning in June 2010 the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust took a group of staff from Premier Farnell to a coppice wood on the Devonshire Estate, to learn the basics of woodland management. The task was to remove Beech and Willow trees that were overgrowing Juniper bushes …without amputating any human limbs. The team enjoyed being out in the fresh air and felt virtuous following their mornings’ work helping the environment.

Premier Farnell commented “The guidance given by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust staff was expert and informative and helped everyone to better appreciate the value of the work they do to preserve the beauty of the Devonshire estate.”

By way of thanks, Premier Farnell donated a consignment of safety footwear to enable future volunteers to enjoy supporting the Trust through activities such as woodland management and dry stone walling.

Cottage in the Dales

has been a supporter of the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust for the last two years, throughout which they have run a very successful tree dedication promotion. Every customer who makes a return booking with Cottage in the Dales receives a personal tree dedication. The promotion has helped to increase the number of customers booking return trips, as well as enabling us to plant many new native broadleaf trees in the area.

Diane Howarth, owner of Cottage in the Dales, says: “Our customers love the fact that they are doing something to benefit the local environment. Having a tree dedicated to them in the Dales can also be a very touching gesture.”

As a partner of Donate to the Dales, Cottage in the Dales has shown a commitment to the local environment that has helped them to gain several green tourism accreditations.

Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants
We are delighted to have been chosen as the 2011-2012 charity partner of the year for the Yorkshire-based Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants – a group of unique places, located in tranquil and unspoilt locations in the Yorkshire Dales, including Bolton Abbey and Burnsall.

Brian van Oosten, General Manager of The Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel & Spa, commented “I am delighted with this year’s chosen charity which has been personally selected for Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants by The Duchess of Devonshire. Having made huge efforts to improve our environmental policy over the past year; we are excited to make use of the wealth of knowledge that the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust has to offer - and of course to help raise money for such a worthy cause.”
