Flowers of the Dales Festival

Flowers of the Dales Bumblebee event

The Yorkshire Dales have a remarkable variety of wildflowers thanks to its internationally important habitats. With wildflower-rich hay meadows and pastures, open heather moorland, ancient woodland, moorland fringes and unique limestone pavement, it’s no wonder that the Yorkshire Dales are one of the most important protected areas in the UK.

We are lucky that this beautiful area is a stronghold for many rare or nationally scarce plants and animals, but we must not take them for granted. Many species and ecosystems are in danger of disappearing due to threats like habitat loss and climate change. We need to act now to help protect them for future generations.

Find out how you can support our efforts to save our precious meadows through our Hay Time Appeal here.

The Festival

The Flowers of the Dales Festival aims to celebrate the glorious range of wildflowers, their habitats and the species they support. It also gives everyone an opportunity to appreciate and understand the importance of conserving them. The Festival offers a whole host of fun and exciting events each year from March to October, run by YDMT, partner organisations and individuals throughout the Dales. We are delighted to say that more than 33,000 people have enjoyed taking part since the first Festival in 2009.

Here are the thoughts of one happy Festival attendee:

“I would like to thank and congratulate your organisation for putting together the Flowers of the Dales festival. It was a wonderful experience and we learnt a lot. We look forward to returning next summer to sample some of the other wildflower walks.”
