Laying stone flags in Askrigg Village

Askrigg Primary School turned out to witness the burial of the Askrigg time capsule in July 2012. This is linked with a small scale infrastructure project to improve the village environment, run by the Askrigg and Low Abbotside Parish Council and part funded to £6,417 by our Dales LEADER Programme, matched with £1,605 from the Parish Council.

The time capsule, made by local craftsman Mike Allenby, contains items that represent all aspects of village life, including handwritten memory cards, photographs of village life, newspapers, posters and Askrigg Primary School school photograph. The box will be opened in 50 years!

LEADER also supported the upgrade of the Askrigg village hall toilets, with the work being done by a host of volunteers.

The funding for this project was made available through the Rural Development Programme for England, which is jointly funded by Defra and the European Union.
