Carr’s Group and Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) are working together to create a lasting legacy for Dales agriculture.
People, innovation, environment
Our partnership with Carr's Group will provide support for people, innovation and the environment over the next three years to deliver sustainable farm improvements that benefit our communities.
The partnership aims to:
- Bring together the work of YDMT with Carr’s customers and networks
- Engage young people more with the agricultural sector
- Break down perceieved barriers between the agricultural and environmental sectors
The partnership was launched at Hesper Farm, Bell busk. The two organisations looked at how YDMT could compliment a thriving farm business with some simple, practical habitat creation to support wildlife and the environment.
As part of the partnership Carrs Billington Agriculture will provide sponsorship towards YDMT's woodland grants programme, offering free advice and funding to Carr’s customers to create new native broadleaf woodlands, including gill planting, fencing and planting which can help with natural flood management.
Trees are hugely valuable as a habitat for wildlife and support some of our most endangered woodland animals. They also have a number of benefits on a farm.
They can be planted on areas of un-used farmland or gills, and can help provide shade and shelter to stock. Trees also help with water quality, reducing pollution, flood risk and soil erosion.
The woodland grants programme is managed by Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) with partners including Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, the Woodland Trust, Nidderdale AONB and the Forestry Commission.
