About the course

This one-day course offers participants an introduction to the different wildflowers that you may typically find in an upland hay meadow. A classroom based presentation will be followed by the opportunity to learn about and identify species in the wildflower rich meadows of Colt Park, set within the dramatic landscape of Ingleborough National Nature Reserve.

 

About the tutor

Sarah has been involved in environmental training since she started working for ADAS in 1994. As the YDMT Hay Time officer covering the Forest of Bowland AONB from 2012 to 2018, Sarah has worked closely with farmers and landowners across the AONB area working on meadow restoration. Every summer since 2012 she has also delivered training and guided walks focussing on upland meadows and local wildflowers.

Equipment and requirements

It is recommended that you bring:

• Plenty to drink

• Sturdy boots and waterproofs

• Hand lens (available to borrow if required)

• Lunch (free hot and cold drinks available)

 

You will need to be moderately fit. Please let us know of any medical conditions you have and ensure you bring your medication with you.

 

Timetable (10am to 3pm)

Registration/ Arrival – 09:45 – 10:00am

• Introduction to wildflowers (indoors). Focussing on the wildflowers typical of the region.

• Exploration of the meadow. An opportunity to explore the species rich meadows of Colt Park. Identification and species discussion will take place on site. This will be the main activity of the course.
