About the course

Participants will explore Wharfe wood and its woodland flora with the course leader. The course is focused on identification of ancient woodland indicators (and other flowering plants) and is designed to give the beginner a basic understanding to be confident to explore woodlands and their flora. The course will be an informal walk around the woods with opportunities to ask questions about woodland management techniques and ecological surveys.

 

About the tutor

Chloë Lumsdon is a professional Ecologist and Wildlife Advisor working for the National Trust. She aims to inspire adults and children to explore and appreciate the natural world. Her professional background is in ecology, conservation and habitat management.

Equipment and requirements

It is recommended that you bring:

• Sturdy boots and waterproofs

• Plenty to drink

• Lunch (free hot and cold drinks available at registration)

• Sun cream, insect repellent

• Hand lens (some are available to borrow if you do not have your own)

You will need to be moderately fit. Please let us know of any medical conditions you have and ensure you bring your medication with you.

 

Timetable (10am to 3pm)

Registration/ Arrival – 09:45 – 10:00am

• Walk to from Feizor to Wharfe wood (an opportunity for introductions)

• Fieldwork Session – an informal walk around Wharfe and Oxenber (if time) woods
