Green Guardians Project Officer

We’ve got an exciting opportunity for someone with the energy and experience to develop and lead inspirational outdoor activities for young people in the Yorkshire Dales.

Part time (28hrs per week) | Fixed-term contract until 31 December 2020 with possible extension (subject to funding) until 31 March 2021 | £25,523 - £27,437 (pro-rata)

Full time may also be possible for the right candidate

We’ve got an exciting opportunity for someone with the energy and experience to develop and lead inspirational outdoor activities for young people in the Yorkshire Dales.

As Green Guardians Officer you will:

  • Identify and develop opportunities for young people aged 11-24 who are not traditionally engaged with the natural environment, targeting young people experiencing disadvantage/deprivation in Craven, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Lancashire.
  • Run group activities in the Yorkshire Dales, giving young people the practical skills and confidence to access and enjoy the natural world and empowering them to take positive action for the environment.
  • Manage and deliver a small-scale grant programme – Youth Environmental Action Fund – supporting young people to deliver environmental projects in their own communities.
  • Work closely with members of the Green Futures team to link into initiatives such as our youth environment forum and annual youth environment summit.

To achieve this, we need someone with a degree level qualification in community development, environmental education or a related subject, and/or at least three years’ experience in delivering environmental projects for young people. You will also need excellent interpersonal skills and have the flexibility and self-motivation to manage a diverse workload.

Green Futures is part of Our Bright Future, a £33 million programme funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and led by The Wildlife Trusts that aims to tackle three big challenges facing society today - a lack of social cohesion, a lack of opportunities for young people and vulnerability to climate change. As part of the Green Futures team, this role will contribute to the wider Our Bright Future portfolio of activities – with opportunities to work with other organisations and partners.
