About the tutor

Colin Newlands is Senior Reserve Manager at Ingleborough National Nature Reserve. Each year he leads walks around the NNR for visitors so that they can discover and enjoy the wildlife of this special reserve at the heart of the three peaks. Hannah Rose, who has several years’ environmental education experience working within raised bog habitats, will assist Colin.

Equipment and requirements

It is recommended that you bring:

• appropriate clothing and footwear for walking outdoors. Wellington boots are essential as the site is very wet in parts.

• hand lens x10 (there are some to borrow if needed)

• packed lunch (tea, coffee and water will be provided)

• camera and ID books would be helpful

 

You will need to be reasonably fit (approximately 4km of walking). Please let us know of any medical conditions you have and ensure you bring your medication with you.

 

Timetable (10.00am to 4.00pm)

• Introduction to raised bog habitats and flora (indoors).

• Fieldwork Session (Swarth Moor).
