Grants for young people

YDMT Grants can provide up to 100% funding and support to young people to set up and deliver their own small scale environmental projects that will support one of our three aims:

  • People: to support people to live in, visit and care for the Yorkshire Dales
  • Landscape: to protect and enhance the landscape and culture of the area
  • Wildlife: to protect and enhance the wildlife of the area

We've already given out £26,500 to help young people to get a wide variety of inspiring projects off the ground, from an eco-festival and BioBlitz to recycling schemes and wildlife gardens.

BioBlitz

Orin's BioBlitz

"I really wanted to organise my own BioBlitz event to help local people find out what wildlife lives in the area.

My hope is that lots of people and especially young people were inspired to love the natural world around us.

I believe that if people know and understand what lives alongside them, they will be more passionate about protecting it."

Who can apply for a YDMT grant?

To apply, your project must be within the Yorkshire Dales National Park or Nidderdale AONB, or close to their boundaries. Projects outside of this area that clearly provide significant benefits to the area or its communities may still be considered.

Grants can be used for all kinds of activities: to run events, meetings or workshops, or purchase resources for practical environmental work. You can apply for 100% of the total project cost, typically up to £1,000, but we will consider applications for larger amounts.

Applications can be submitted at any time. We aim to give you a decision within six weeks of us receiving all of the necessary information.
