Yorkshire Dales LEADER is a rural development grants programme funding projects that create jobs, promote economic growth and improve the quality of life in rural communities.
What is LEADER?
LEADER is a community-led rural development programme which aims to improve the quality of life and prosperity in rural communities through locally driven rural development initiatives and projects.
In the Yorkshire Dales the LEADER Programme was set up to build a sustainable community and economy that capitalises on the area’s environment, landscape, culture and heritage.
Since it opened to applicants in 2016 Yorkshire Dales LEADER has awarded grants to 80 projects totalling £2,723,640. Grants of up to £150,000 were given to rural businesses, community groups and other applicants – funding a range of projects from forestry and farming to tourism, heritage and rural services - and supporting innovation and diversification, as well as encouraging collaboration and the use of new technologies.
The final projects have now been allocated their funding, helping to improve prosperity and quality of life in the rural area.
How is YDMT involved?
LEADER is a multi-agency partnership which brings together people from the voluntary sector, public bodies and private businesses. In the Yorkshire Dales area this partnership is led by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, by Rima Berry our Dales LEADER co-ordinator and overseen by a Local Action Group (LAG), comprising a wide range of organisations and individuals throughout our area.
The Yorkshire Dales LEADER Programme has now allocated its funding and is no longer open for applications.
