Join us on the Big Green Hike!
2024 is a critical year of action for nature. We're joining some of Britain's best-loved nature and environmental charities to take part in the Big Green Hike a nationwide sponsored walk that anyone can take part in on 6-7th April 2024.
Every penny you raise will support vulnerable young people to take part in YDMT's Woodland Wellbeing programme. The programme helps young people living in difficult circumtances to take part in a series of outdoor sessions, giving them the opportunity to develop life skills, build their confidence and make connections with others.
How do I take part?
It's free and easy to join in, here's what you need to do.
1. Sign up for FREE with the Big Green Hike
You'll receive an event pack which will talk you through setting up your JustGiving page to collect donations.

2. Choose your own route
Whether 1 mile, or 30, walking, running or skipping: the distance, format or location isn’t what matters. What really counts is you showing up for the environment and having fun.
For routes in the Yorkshire Dales you can download the Yorkshire Dales National Park walking app for free. Miles Without Stiles Walks are all under 2 miles and are suitable for those in wheelchairs, buggies or for walking dogs.
3. Start collecting donations!
Share your JustGiving page unique URL with as many people as you can. Read a bit more about what your donations can help to achieve further down the page.
How will my donations help?
Everyone should have equal opportunity to visit and benefit from spending time in nature. But for many young people that simply isn’t possible.
We rely on your donations to bring a bit of hope to hundreds of disadvantaged young people, many of whom have poorer life prospects, lack self-esteem and suffer from anxiety and depression. Spending time in nature, over a longer period, provides many of the opportunities that young people need to develop life skills and build their confidence and sense of belonging. A donation of £50 could support a young person to take part in one Woodland Wellbeing session, and £520 could support one young person for a full 12-week course.

“It’s nice to have the chance to talk and to be outside. I love the nice trees, the wind; experiencing all of nature.
It has helped getting my bad thoughts away...the activities, using my hands. I’ve been able to try new things.
And I’ve made new friends. I didn’t have many friends in primary school and I thought it was because I didn’t have any talent. It’s been nice to have the chance to develop that talent.”
Megan, aged 13
