Ever fancied picking berries from an edible hedge on your way to the bus stop, or strolling through a pocket-sized forest in your local park?
YDMT is part of an inspiring new initiative called Village Green, helping communities take practical steps to tackle the climate crisis - starting with the small spaces right on their doorsteps.
Across the Dales and North Yorkshire, we’ll work with local groups to transform small plots of land into vibrant, climate-friendly spaces. Think tiny forests the size of a tennis court, pollinator patches and rain gardens, hedgerows, hedgehog highways, natural play - and much more.
YDMT is proud to be part of this three-year partnership, led by Community First Yorkshire and funded by the National Lottery Climate Action Fund. We’ll bring our expertise in landscape design, habitat creation and community engagement to help create greener, healthier, and more resilient places for everyone.
Wild Little Spaces - how to get involved
Funding and support is available for community groups, schools and parish councils with spaces under one hectare. Projects should focus on climate action, and could include micro-woodlands, sustainable drainage, exercise or play spaces that connect people with nature.
We are expecting a high level of interest in this project, at this time we can only support 10 sites/groups, therefore projects will be prioritised using a scoring process, read further project information here.
If you’ve got a small space and big ideas, we'd love to hear more about your proposed green space site, group, and ideas. Please email us in the first instance.
