Learn how to live harmoniously with your old building in this one-day course - teaching owners and guardians of historic buildings in the Yorkshire Dales how to maintain them and potentially make them more energy efficient.

This one-day course will teach owners and guardians of historic buildings in the Dales how to maintain them and potentially save money by making them more energy efficient. The course is aimed at owners and those living in or looking after historic buildings and will cover:

  • Conservation philosophy
  • Understanding the history and development of your old building
  • Understanding traditional building construction
  • Damp and timber decay
  • Historic building controls and working with professionals
  • Q&A with materials

About the tutor

James Innerdale is an experienced Conservation Architect and trainer, specialising in the repair, conservation and adaptation of historic buildings. He deals with as aspects of historic building project management, clients including domestic home owners, places of worship and the National Trust. James has also provided heritage skills training for a range of organisations including Historic England, The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB), Cumbria Action for Sustainability, the North of England Civic Trust, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. Courses include training for homeowners, building professionals and contractors, including presentations and practical demonstrations as well as walk and talks.
