Our 1997-98 Supporter Woodland
St Joseph’s is YDMT's first major supporter woodland. Planted in the winter of 1998 and 1999 the woodland is located at Aysgarth Falls, Wensleydale, next to the ancient Freeholders Wood and near the famous waterfalls. The 12-hectare site has been planted with around 11,500 trees - mainly ash with oak, hazel, rowan and holly. Part of the area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and the knolls have been left unplanted to protect the herb rich grassland.
Access and directions
A Public Right of Way (marked by footpath fingerpost) runs across the site from the entrance to Freeholders so visitors can view and walk through the new wood, as and when they wish. The woodland is situated on private land – please keep to the footpath in the wood.
