Three Counties: Lune Valley

A major new partnership scheme is being developed to conserve and celebrate the natural and cultural heritage of the Lune Valley.

The Lune Valley has some of the North West's finest countryside, rich in historical and cultural heritage, with diverse wildlife and habitats, and home to vibrant communities.

YDMT, in partnership with the Forest of Bowland AONB, Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, Sustrans and other organisations, is developing an ambitious scheme focussed on the middle and lower sections of the Lune catchment, which crosses the boundaries of Cumbria, Lancashire and North Yorkshire.

The scheme will deliver a wide range of community and heritage projects to celebrate the area and make it an even better place for people, heritage and nature. You can find out more here: Three Counties Scheme Summary.

When will the Three Counties: Lune Valley scheme start?

Major schemes like this, such as Stories in Stone, can take a few years to develop. Getting the views of the public is the start of the process, but is fundamental in helping us to develop a strong programme that’s been well thought out, has public support, and makes best use of public and private funding.
